### Lesson Plan: First Aid – Definition
#### Subject: Basic Science and Technology
#### Topic: First Aid – Definition
#### Grade Level: Nursery 2
#### Duration: 30 minutes
---
#### Objectives:
By the end of this lesson, students will be able to:
1. Understand what first aid is.
2. Identify basic situations where first aid might be needed.
3. Learn the importance of first aid in helping others.
---
#### Materials Needed:
- Visual aids (pictures of first aid activities, first aid kits, etc.)
- A toy first aid kit for demonstration
- Coloring sheets with first aid images
- Crayons
- Band-aids for demonstration
- Storybook about helping others (optional)
---
#### Procedure:
1. **Introduction (5 minutes)**
- **Greeting and Circle Time:** Start with a friendly greeting. Have the students sit in a circle.
- **Attention Getter:** Sing a short, catchy song related to helping others or staying safe. Example: "We help our friends, we help our friends, we help our friends when they need it, we help our friends."
2. **Warm-Up Discussion (5 minutes)**
- **Engaging Question:** Ask the students if they have ever helped someone who got a little hurt. Example: “Have you ever helped a friend when they fell down and got a scratch? How did you help them?”
- **Relate to Personal Experiences:** Encourage a few students to share their experiences of helping others when they were hurt.
3. **Lesson Development (10 minutes)**
- **Explain First Aid:**
- Define first aid in simple terms: “First aid is help given to someone who has been hurt before a doctor can see them."
- Show pictures of a first aid kit and items inside it (band-aids, wipes, etc.).
- **Situations Needing First Aid:**
- Show visual aids of situations needing first aid (falling down, a small cut on the finger, etc.).
- Briefly describe how to help in these situations: “If someone falls and gets a cut, we can use a band-aid to cover it.”
- **Using a Toy First Aid Kit:**
- Demonstrate using a toy first aid kit on a doll or stuffed animal. Show how to clean a cut with a wipe and apply a band-aid.
4. **Activity (5 minutes)**
- **Coloring Activity:** Handout coloring sheets with images related to first aid (like a child helping another child with a band-aid).
- **Supervision and Assistance:** Walk around to help the students and discuss the pictures they are coloring.
5. **Conclusion (5 minutes)**
- **Review:** Recap what first aid is and why it’s important.
- **Interactive Review:** Ask some questions to students: “Who remembers what first aid means?” “Can anyone tell me one thing we can use in first aid?”
- **Sticker Reward:** Give out stickers for participation and attention during the lesson.
6. **Story Time (Optional, if time permits)**
- If time allows, read a short story about helping others or a simple story involving first aid situations. This can reinforce the lesson in a fun way.
---
#### Assessment:
- Observation during discussion and activities.
- Responses to questions asked during review.
---
#### Adaptations for Diverse Learners:
- For students with attention difficulties, provide hands-on tasks like placing band-aids on a doll.
- Use larger, simpler images for visual aids to help those with visual processing issues.
---
#### Reflection:
- After the lesson, note which activities engaged students the most and which parts might need simplification for future lessons. Consider incorporating more multi-sensory elements if necessary.
---
This lesson plan aims to introduce Nursery 2 students to the concept of first aid in a simple and interactive way, fostering understanding through discussion, demonstration, and fun activities.
